043 - Wintersun Nostalgic Festival - 29th May to 8th June 2009

This event was the best kept secret until 2000 and we've been enjoying an almost annual pilgrimage to Coolangatta for this wonderful festival ever since. There's something for everyone with pre-1974 cars, hot rods, rock-n-roll music, dancing and market stalls. The weather is usually a bit warmer than Sydney too.

The main days for car lovers are the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the long weekend. There's a car cruise Saturday and Sunday night where people line the streets and watch the many participant's cars go by and it lasts about 2 hours.

We drove the 71 Riviera up this year and displayed it in Marine Parade each day. It was very pleasing to see more Buicks this year than ever before. Many having just recently completed restoration.

One of the highlights for us was our daughter Stacey having a photo shoot with a renowned pinup photographer from the USA, featuring Qld member, Hans Van Riel's gorgeous 55 Buick Roadmaster Convertible. What a beautiful restoration! (pic above)

The Blue 55 Roadmaster convertible belongs to Qld member Jim Harkess, the red and white 56 4 door Roadmaster is that of Qld member Martin Jansen and the exceptional 57 Cabellero Wagon is owned by Qld member Jim Humphries

We've already booked our accommodation for 2010 so hope to see more member's Buicks participating.
